Job Summary</b></p>
The Medical-Surgical ICU (MSICU) at Brigham and Women's Hospital is a pioneering 10-bed unit and the first Physician Assistant-run ICU in our hospital. Our PAs practice at the highest level of their license, providing comprehensive critical care to a diverse mix of medical and surgical patients in a dynamic, high-acuity environment.<br>
Our clinical team is supported by critical care-trained attending physicians with expertise spanning Acute Care Surgery, Pulmonary Medicine, Anesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Cardiology, and Interventional Radiology. We also work alongside a critical care-specialized pharmacist, respiratory therapists, and experienced ICU nurses &mdash; giving our PAs access to exceptional interdisciplinary collaboration and mentorship at every level of care<br>

The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. May also perform additional duties, such as precepting a small group of learners.<br>

Ellison 8, is a thirty six bed adult Cardiac Surgical Step Down Unit., located in Boston, MA. Patients are primarily admitted post operatively from the Blake 8 - Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Patients are also admitted pre-op for cardiac surgery. Common diagnoses include coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, aortic disease, congenital heart disease, lethal arrhythmias, S/P coronary bypass graft, S/P valve replacement, ACID placement, and permanent pacemaker placement.<br>

Ideal applicants should be able to provide Day shift training up to 40 hours and weekend coverage every month.<br>

Join a supportive Advanced Practice Team in a role supporting the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. This practice specializes in the care of patients with multiple myeloma as well as patients requiring specific procedures in our procedure clinic. These teams have a demonstrated history of providing exquisite, evidence-based patient care. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to work in this invigorating and collaborative environment.

This APP will deliver direct care to outpatients with two days of the work week dedicated to working directly with the multiple myeloma team and two days dedicated to working in the procedure clinic. With an interdisciplinary team approach, this provider will promote a collaborative relationship between providers, professional nurses, and administrative staff, to ensure continuity of patient care in the management of their disease and related issues as well as to develop expertise in the field.

Within this role, the advanced practice provider will be responsible for a panel of patients.

APCs work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals to diagnose and treat a variety of acute and chronic conditions. In addition, this role focuses on conducting comprehensive patient assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing and implementing treatment plans for acute and chronic illness, providing education to patients and families about preventive care, treatment options, and self-care techniques, and evaluation of therapeutic response to the treatment plan and with adjustment of interventions developed as needed. The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education. Job Overview</b></p><p>
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for providing primary care for a caseload of patients. As an advanced practice nurse, the NP has received specialized training and education in the management of the acute care. The NP is uniquely qualified to meet the responsibilities of the role which include, but are not limited to: Comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment; Prescribing and performance of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions; Supervise protocols and insure compliance of studies; Development, evaluation and modifications of treatment plans as patient condition warrants; Review/prescribe therapeutic orders for patients; and Participate in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as indicated by patient condition. The NP practices in collaboration with the attending physician and other members of the multidisciplinary team to insure optimal patient outcomes. The NP works in conjunction with the primary nurse to provide patient and family centered care, providing psycho-emotional support, educational support and discharge planning that is individualized and comprehensive. Additionally, the NP will be able to provide clinical consultation and participate in medical and nursing research. The NP will participate in continuing education, quality improvement initiatives, clinical outcome evaluation and monitoring.</p><p></p><p><b>

Minimum Qualifications:</b></p><p>
1. Masters degree in Nursing.</p><p>
2. Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license.</p><p>
3. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.</p><p>
4. Three (3) years of nursing experience.</p><p>
5. Certifications (i.e. ACLS, PALS) or additional state licensure relevant to the department and type of care being provided may be required.</p><p></p><p><b><br>
Preferred Qualifications:</b></p><p>
1. Five (5) years of nursing experience</p><p>

1. Applies advanced nursing knowledge and experience to provide care to assigned caseload of patients assigned, in collaboration with the attending physician. This care involves comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment of common problems encountered throughout the disease process. The NP provides comprehensive symptom management throughout the illness trajectory with specific attention to goals of care.</p><p>
2. Provide care that is appropriate to the age of patients served in the clinical area.</p><p>
3. Performs procedures and treatments using nursing judgment and according to established practice guidelines and professional standards.</p><p>
4. Orders and administers drugs in a manner that demonstrates advanced knowledge of pharmacology and medications. Monitors medication treatment according to patient&rsquo;s response.</p><p>
5. Remains knowledgeable about equipment and utilizes equipment in a safe manner.</p><p>
6. Writes clear, comprehensive initial and follow up notes. Orders appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.</p><p>
7. Plans effectively for any necessary home care and follow-up.</p><p>
8. Initiates referrals and consultations with appropriate specialists as indicated.</p><p>
9. Facilitates family and team meetings as appropriate to patient care needs.</p><p>
10. Directs the medical/nursing plan of care building collegial relationships among the team of his/her colleagues and peers to maximize patient care and outcomes.</p><p>
11. Delegates responsibilities to others with an understanding of their roles, knowledge and capabilities.</p><p>
12. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships among the various disciplines and departments to ensure effective quality patient care delivery.</p><p>
13. Maintains a collaborative work relationship with peers and colleagues in order to create a positive work environment.</p><p>
