The purpose of a Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS or Medical Scribe) at Oak Street Health is to support our primary care providers with clinical documentation so that they can focus on providing exceptional care to our patients. Scribes assist providers throughout the patient care journey - huddling each morning to plan for the day's visits, joining them in the exam room to observe and document, and touching base after the visit to assist with next steps.
Beyond the typical Scribe role, these important care team members serve as clinical documentation assistants to their paired provider. Internally, we call them CISs (Clinic Informatics Specialists) in recognition of their important role in supporting accurate, specific, and timely clinical documentation. What Will You Do:</h1>
As a key member of the ambulatory care team, you will:<ul><li>
Assists the department leader to support daily workflow and operations for maximum efficiency and productivity</li><li>
Assists with training and onboarding and acts as a resource for the team.
</li><li>Serves as a role champion or on a committee to support quality, safety, teammate engagement, patient experience, and general process improvement initiatives.
</li><li>Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.).
</li><li>Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.</li><li>
Perform lab-related tasks including specimen collection and point-of-care testing.</li><li>
Document care accurately in the electronic health record.</li><li>

We are Looking For:</h1>
Required Qualifications:<ul><li>
High School Diploma or GED required.</li><li>
Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant, or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.</li><li>
Certified or registered as a CMA or RMA by one of the following National Organizations: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification issued by the National Health Career Association (NHA), RMA certification issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT), Medical Assistant (NCMA) certification issued by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC), or American Medical Certification Association (AMCA).</li><li>
2-3 years of experience in performing as a medical assistant which includes demonstrated competency in performing: injections, immunizations, EKG, obtaining vital signs, routine medication administration, aseptic technique and infection control guidelines and has demonstrated leadership readiness.</li><li>
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 45 days unless department leader has determined it is not required.</li><li>
Phlebotomy preferred.</li><li>
Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.</li><li>
Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available.</li></ul><h1 class="jobSectionHeader">

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions<ul><li>
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.

</li><li>Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
</li><li>Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
</li><li>Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.
</li><li>Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed.
</li><li>May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
</li><li>Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
</li><li>Physical Abilities Testing may be required.
</li><li>Additional department specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader.</li></ul>
