<div>Genetics is a basic science department located in the George and Cynthia Mitchell Basic Sciences Research Building at the world-renowned University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in the heart of the Texas Medical Center. The focus is on advancing knowledge of the molecular genetic mechanisms that regulate normal and abnormal cellular processes. 
 
The primary purpose of the Research Assistant II is to coordinate and conduct experiments and carry out research projects in varied areas of biology, genetics and other biomedical or related basic science areas. Position Summary:
Under minimal direction of senior research staff, conducts and executes complex basic science/ translational experiments and research tasks and assists in the interpretation of the results.
The Research Assistant III will perform a variety of molecular and cellular biology experiments and contribute to ongoing studies involving both 2D and 3D cell culture systems.
Position Key Accountabilities:<ul><li>
Perform standard molecular biology techniques, including ELISA, Western blotting, and nucleic acid (DNA/RNA) extraction.</li><li> 
Maintain, passage, and differentiate primary cell cultures and established cell lines.</li> 
<li>
Conduct 3D cell culture experiments, such as spheroid or organoid models.</li><li>
Use fluorescence microscopy for imaging and data collection.</li><li> 
Assist with experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting.</li><li> 
Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records.</li>

Support general lab operations, including reagent preparation, ordering, and equipment maintenance.</li><li>
Strong aseptic technique and good laboratory practices</li><li>

Under minimal supervision, implements planned research experiments according to research protocol.</li><li>
Maintains accurate and timely records which may include notebooks, records, databases, etc. as needed by the research project. May assist in the preparation and writing of research reports, manuscripts, papers, and grant proposals for presentation and publication.</li><li>
Maintains clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.</li><li>
Monitors laboratory and/or other supplies to ensure sufficient inventory to support research projects. Ensures quality of reagents or other supplies.</li><li>
Stays abreast of new and updated procedures and protocols for research laboratory. Must complete required training. May participates in continuing education programs, seminars, and workshops.</li><li>

This role supports the Texas Firefighter Cancer Study, a multidisciplinary team dedicated to studying occupational carcinogens and cancer risks in firefighters. The team collaborates with community stakeholders, fire departments, and state agencies to conduct research projects. The Research Assistant I conducts lab and field responsibilities, manages data collection and analysis, and ensures reliable study results.
Position Key Accountabilities:<ul><li>
Under close supervision, conducts research activities according to research protocol. Research activities may include some or all of the following: study participant recruiting and screening, traditional laboratory experiments and activities, informatics, field interviewer recruiting, screening and training and/or laboratories.</li><li>
May maintain clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.</li><li>
Collects, evaluates, and interprets research data to provide needed information to principal investigators and other researchers. Updates notebooks, records, and databases as needed.</li><li>
