The Clinical Assistant (Medical Assistant) provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and surgeons. Responsibilities<ul><li>
Serves as a liaison between physicians, patients, families, healthcare providers, nursing homes, homecare providers, patient employers and insurance companies to ensure quality patient care for patients seen in the campus and offsite satellite offices.</li><li>
Coordinates the daily activities of the physician team staff to ensure an effective and efficient daily operations flow.</li><li>
Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring, dressing, collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc. Assists physicians with various procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and or families; answers calls and provides pertinent information.</li><li>
Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Completing forms and requisitions as needed, managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately. These responsibilities may be carried out using the electronic medical record (EMR) system, database or manually as necessary.</li><li>
Enters orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepares prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for the review and approval by the ordering physician.</li><li>
May perform medical scribe functions as directed by the supervising physician, depending on the needs of the department.</li><li>
Inventories, orders or re-stocks medical supplies as applicable.</li><li>
Provides set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies.</li><li>
Maintains logging system as required for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart or others as needed. Checks expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies disposing appropriately as per institution policy.</li><li>
Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infections body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation and other hazardous substances.</li><li>
May perform appointment scheduling or the booking of surgeries/procedures, or works in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms.</li><li>

<li>Communicates the functionality and purpose of MyChart to patients during intake</li>
<li>Ensures the appropriate translation services or equipment is in place prior to the start of visit
</li><li>Assists with blood/specimen collection and ensures proper handling and processing of patient specimens as per organizational policy &amp; procedure.</li>
<li>Performs Point of Care testing such as: EKG, Glucose Testing, and Pregnancy Test, Urinalysis, following organizational policy &amp; procedure, and with documentation of any required competency in place.</li>
<li>Preps the appropriate patient encounter ensuring that all relevant information for visit is up-to-date including bloodwork, radiology images, medications, and past medical history.</li>
<li>Reviews and imports any &ldquo;Prepare for your Visit&rdquo;, &ldquo;Outside Information&rdquo; and patient history prior to provider encounter</li>
<li>Works with clinical team to ensure logbooks related to equipment, specimen collection and other clinical safety measures are followed per FGP standards.</li>
<li>Supports best practice workflows for MIPS by updating medical records with patient vital signs and Histories (Immunization, Medical &amp; Surgical). May also be required to scan and/or upload diagnostic reports according to their description and link them to their associated order in Epic.</li>
<li>Maintains patient privacy as it relates to HIPPA standards.</li>
<li>Handles appropriate patient calls and documents outcome of all patient communications as needed. Refers all clinical questions/concerns to RN/Provider.</li>
<li>Assists with in-basket message management including any necessary tasks related to patient medical advice requests as per best practices</li>
<li>Utilizes EPIC functionality to review and update patient records as well as maintain communication with peers and supervisors related to patient care</li>
<li>Assists physicians with procedure and/or set-up according to the specialty where necessary</li>
<li>Stocks exam/treatment rooms and/or supply closets with medical supplies, linen and medical equipment as needed. Effectively communicates as supplies need to be replenished.</li>
<li>Cleans and sterilizes designated equipment after use, , following organizational policy &amp; guidelines, and with documentation of required competency in place.</li>
<li>Supports FGP Clinical Quality Management by facilitating appropriate documentation and maintenance of clinical supplies and equipment.</li>
<li>Reviews appropriate downtime procedures as it relates to patient visit</li>
<li>Completes annual competencies such as Fire Safety, Hazardous Waste, Medsled, HIPPA compliance, etc.</li>
<li>Partners with administrative and clinical personnel to complete prior authorization, medication refills and referrals related to patient continuity of care.</li>
<li>Assists with prescription refill request by locating requested prescription in EMR, identifying last patient visit, and tasking RN, LPN, or Provider to evaluate, set up and/or process for renewal</li>
<li>Accompanies physician into exam room and transcribes history, including history of present illness, past medical and surgical history, family and social histories, medications and allergies, physical exam, laboratory and radiologic orders as dictated by the MD and document accurately the physician's encounter with the patient.</li>
<li>List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician.</li>
<li>Documents patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc.</li>
<li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li>

Minimum Qualifications:

Key Responsibilities
As a Medical Assistant (MA) at NYCBS, you will be integral to the care and support of both patients and the medical team. Your primary responsibilities will include:<ul><li>
Patient Care: Manage patient intakes, ensuring accurate information is recorded, including vital signs, medical history, and patient concerns.</li><li>
Venipuncture &amp; Specimen Collection: Perform blood draws, urine dipsticks, stool collection, and rapid tests such as Strep, Flu, COVID, and RSV, ensuring proper labeling and handling of all specimens.</li><li>
Diagnostic Testing: Perform EKGs and point-of-care testing, and assist in other diagnostic procedures under the direct supervision of a Physician or APP.</li><li>
Clinical Assistance: Prepare patients and exam rooms for visits and procedures, and assist providers during physical exams and in-office treatments.</li><li>
Instrument Sterilization: Clean, sterilize, and maintain medical equipment and instruments to ensure patient safety and infection control.</li><li>
Laboratory Support: Operate and maintain lab equipment such as CBC analyzers and urinalysis machines; prepare, process, and store specimens appropriately (room temp, refrigerated, or frozen).</li><li>
Quality Control: Run and document various lab tests including glucose monitoring, PT/INR, urine pregnancy, and fecal occult blood; conduct and troubleshoot quality control procedures and report critical values.</li><li>
Electronic Documentation: Utilize Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) to enter, verify, and manage lab orders and clinical data.</li><li>
Reference Lab Coordination: Package and send out specimens to external labs such as Labcorp and Quest, ensuring proper documentation and compliance.</li><li>
Communication &amp; Teamwork: Maintain professional communication with providers, staff, and patients, and contribute to a collaborative team environment.</li><li>
Multi-Site Flexibility: Adapt to workflow changes and provide support across multiple NYCBS locations as needed.</li></ul><h3 class="jobSectionHeader">

As an integral part of the clinical care team, the Patient Care Associate is responsible for patient care and support activities promoting patient focused care within the Specialty Service. The Patient Care Associate supports the registered nurse in patient care activities, such as: assisting patient with activities of daily living, collecting specimens and performing procedures; maintaining a safe, clean environment; and other duties as needed.
Responsibilities<div>
A. Clinical/Technical/Service 
<ul><li>Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks</li><li>Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area.</li><li>Performs and records patient&rsquo;s vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature</li></ul>and respirations. Documents intake and output and other data as assigned 
<ul><li>Obtains patient&rsquo;s rating on pain scales as a fifth vital sign in all areas except Pediatrics</li><li>Performs clinical procedures, such as specimen collection including blood glucose, venipuncture, EKG, application of compression devices, post-mortem care, and maintenance of skin integrity.</li><li>Sets up for selected procedures and assists RN&rsquo;s accordingly.</li><li>Assists patient with activities of daily living, such as feeding, bathing and/or toileting.
