 NYT Cooking is looking for a Social Media Editor with strong writing skills, sharp strategic instincts, an eye for visuals and a love of food to join our interdisciplinary, fast-growing team.
 
 
 You will be the daily voice of NYT Cooking across our most visible social platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and more. You will own the daily execution of our social strategy, building and publishing a high volume of engaging feed posts, Reels and TikToks. You will pair food photography and video with sharp, compelling copy that inspires people to cook and ultimately drives audiences to the NYT Cooking app, website, newsletter and other properties.
 
 
 This is an in-office position, based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office four days each week. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.
 
 
 
 Responsibilities

 Build, schedule and publish a high volume of daily content, including 6-10 Instagram feed posts and 3-5 short-form videos (Reels, TikToks).

 Write sharp, engaging captions and on-screen text. Workshop headlines and copy with senior editors to ensure everything published reflects the smart, accessible and entertaining voice of NYT Cooking.

 Select, crop, and optimize food photography for social feeds. Add text, graphics and layout elements to posts using design platforms like Figma.

 Optimize videos for social publication by adding text, closed captions and music/audio.

 Be an expert on the competitive landscape: Keep a constant pulse on culture, trends and emerging formats and platforms.

 Foster community by engaging with our followers in the comments; translate conversations happening on our social platform into actionable, relevant content and product ideas.

 Help build a smart approach to our presence on smaller and emerging platforms such as Reddit, Pinterest and WhatsApp.

 Participate in regular social promo meetings, brainstorming creative ways to visually package and promote upcoming recipes, articles, videos and seasonal tentpoles.

 Work towards follower and engagement goals on social accounts; use analytics to make informed strategic decisions. Interpret data and signals to know what content is the right fit for what audiences at what time (holidays, seasonality, trends).

 Basic Qualifications

 5+ years of experience working as a social media editor or manager for a brand or publication, with direct experience running high-follower Instagram and TikTok accounts.

 Exceptional editorial judgement and copywriting skills, with the ability to write clearly, concisely, and in a distinct, engaging voice.

 Hands-on experience with social scheduling platforms, graphic design platforms like Figma and database platforms like AirTable.

Pay Range
Salary: New York: $67,000.00 - $75,000.00

 Secret Media Network is a digital media group focused on recommending perfect plans, discovering great places, sharing things to do and relevant breaking news in different cities around the world. Our family is composed of Secret London, Secret Chicago, Secret LA, Secret NYC, Secret Atlanta, Secret Miami, Secret Toronto, Lisboa Secreta, Paris Secret, Madrid Secreto, Barcelona Secreta, and more!
 
 
 
 The Role
 
 
 
 You will serve as the Editor for Secret NYC, reporting directly to the Managing Editor for the region. In this role, your responsibilities will include:
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Finding brilliant stories and generating lots of content ideas (not just articles!) for the NYC market
 </li>
 <li>
 Writing engaging, accurate and informative articles, at pace, about those topics
 </li>
 <li>
 Monitor all site content, including daily news, features, and local reporting
 </li>
 <li>
 Have a strong grasp of the city culture and things to do in NYC
 </li>
 <li>
 Manage an editorial calendar with colleagues that incorporates news, reviews, and local city content including planning for longer lead functions, trending stories, and campaigns.
 </li>
 <li>
 Occasional appearances across Reels, TikTok, consumer-facing videos and other brand mediums.
 </li>
 <li>
 Oversee the creation and strategy of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Secret NYC newsletters, keeping in line with SMN standards.
 </li>
 <li>
 Make sure all site copy and headlines are proofread, meeting our editorial standards and style guide.
 </li>
 <li>
 Make sure all posts are SEO friendly
 </li>
 <li>
 Conduct keyword research to track performance as well as identify new content opportunities
 </li>
 <li>
 Manage a small but growing team of enthusiastic local writers, video producers, and social media creatives
 </li>
 <li>
 Liaise with the Secret NYC team and regional Managing Editor to share weekly feedback, best practices, and share strategic input from NY
 </li>
 <li>
 Analyze said metrics and content performance, gleaning insights and applying learnings to better inform future content
 </li>
 <li>
 Work with other colleagues, teams and departments to create strategic content opportunities
 </li>
 <li>
 Track openings and develop sources including PR reps, restaurateurs, local venues and event spaces, and alternate sources for coverage as needed
 </li>
 <li>
 Assist in promotional efforts and collaborations in NYC when necessary
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Who You Are:
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 You have 3+ years experience working for a newsroom, content agency, creative agency, or digital media property.
 </li>
 <li>
 You have a proficient level of English. A second language is a plus for us, but not necessary.
 </li>
 <li>
 You have a deep passion for journalism, social media, and digital marketing.
 </li>
 <li>
 You can demonstrate your ability to adapt to the ever-changing and fast-moving world of a digital startup business.
 </li>
 <li>
 You have a strong attention to detail, are a critical-thinker and a problem-solver.
 </li>
 <li>
 You&rsquo;re a leader who&rsquo;s comfortable managing a team, and supporting them to help achieve their goals.

 <li>
 Photo sourcing skills are a plus
 </li>
 <li>
 An understanding of basic SEO best practices and keyword targeting. Experience writing search-optimized copy is a big plus

 Hands-on knowledge and understanding of the current social media landscape.

 Willingness to learn video content creation for social media is key

 As a Podcast Social Video Editor you will drive the creative vision for short-form social content across the Vox Media slate and oversee the producers who make it. You'll align workflows and standards, build the content calendar, and steward performance and quality. You will ensure each show&rsquo;s social media output meets its unique audience while fitting within network-level strategy.
 
 
 
 What You&rsquo;ll Do
 
 
 
 <ul>

 Lead the video/motion production team responsible for social-first clips, motion graphic promos and still/motion image assets across all shows.

 Build a content calendar aligned with episode launches, campaign pushes, guest announcements, trending topics, and evergreen show moments.

 Define creative standards and aesthetic direction for each show&rsquo;s social assets, drawing upon a sophisticated understanding of branding and motion design.

 Establish and refine production workflows (editing pipeline, asset versioning, templates, motion-graphic library) to support fast turnaround with high quality.

 Excellent storytelling and motion-design instincts; you understand how pacing, typography, graphic motion, sound design and platform context combine to engage audiences.
